Ham radio is an interesting hobby. It is the typical geeky hobby that involves radio operators, also known as hams, talking to each other all over the world. They use equipment over VHF and UHF frequencies. Contact us to learn more about this great hobby.

The history of amateur radio goes back to the 19th century, when the word “ham” was a derogatory term used by telegraph senders, mainly to mock operators who had poor Morse code sending skills, aka the ham-fisted ones.

Ham radio has practical applications like being aware of local emergencies. During those times it can be fast and accurate. You can have a ham radio in your car.

When disaster strikes, radio broadcasts can get through. Licensed armatures have voluntarily registered with ARES – Amateur Radio Emergency Services – to provide their qualifications and equipment for communications to the public when disaster strikes.

Also it is very social. Besides talking to hams all over the world, there are also radio meet-up groups and social events you can attend in your area.

We do testing for folks who are interested in getting their license. We have a section on our website containing a variety of links for ham radio license manuals and study aids in preparation of taking your test.
